MOZAIC AT UNION STATION

LOCATION: Los Angeles, CA

OWNER: Lincoln Property Company

AWARDS: 2008 Downtowners of Distinction Award – presented by the Los Angeles Downtown News

Adjacent to LA's historic Union Station and the hub of the City's metro and rail transit this 272 unit project provides much needed quality housing to Los Angeles’ downtown transit area. Designed by Lisa Pendleton, AIA and Donald Getman, AIA, the project compliments its historic context by incorporating tall tower shapes with bell tower style cutout openings, thick beveled plaster walls with set-in windows and custom wrought iron grille work at balconies, entry gates and garage openings. Open air courtyards and walkways are incorporated throughout the design in keeping with the early California architectural style of Union Station and industrial design features, including shed roofs and factory style glazing, serve to tie the building to its rail yard setting.

Unique features include a street fronting internet cafe open to a front patio, roof top pool and sundeck with dramatic city skyline views, a pedestrian bridge that connects the two buildings over the north driveway and several spacious brick courtyards accented with mosaic tiled water features reminiscent of similar elements found at Union Station. Varied one and two bedroom plans include traditional as well as open “loft style” layouts.
